Commemorative Events
Probus Remembers the centenary of the end of World War One
In November 2018, Probus marked the centenary of the end of the First World War. The village turned out in large numbers to mark the anniversary. A number of events took place including. the unveiling of a new First World War memorial stone and bench, a re-enactment of soldiers going off to war led by a lantern parade by local schoolchildren from Probus and Grampound Road. The beacon was lit in unison with others around the country followed by a lone piper playing from Kernow Pipes and Drums. The church bells rang out with others across the country and the Hawkin's Arms hosted a wartime sing-a-long.
Probus Remembers the 80th anniversary of D-Day
In June 2024, Probus marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The village once again joined other cities, towns and villages across the UK in reading proclamations and lighting the beacon. An event was held at the beacon field in Probus prior to its lighting. Naomi Kennedy very kindly gave up her time to host the commemorations and tell the D-Day story. Isaac Salaman performed two songs, and Keith from Kernow Pipes and Drums played the Pipes after the beacon had been lit. Dom Callaghan very kindly filmed the beacon field event. I'm currently in the process of editing the film and will post it on here when it is finished. In the meantime, enjoy some of the stills of the lead up to and during the commemorations.

Probus Remembers the 80th anniversary of V.E. Day
In May 2025, Probus marked the 80th anniversary of V.E. Day. Twelve teams took on the role of Probus Invasion Committees in 'Operation Roseland' a recreation of the real 'Exercise Roseland' the Probus Invasion Committee took part in in February 1943. It was avery poignant evening. If you haven't already done so, you can read about it here. I'm currently in the process of editing a short film and will post it on here when it is finished. In the meantime, enjoy some of the stills captured from the event.
